ROTEIROS DE CHARME | 9 SIGNATURE ITINERARY I have been running a signature business for 20 years. Everything published on my website, Viaje na Viagem, was either written by me or edited by me. It is a handcrafted enterprise that stays vibrant and dynamic under the owner’s close supervision. I see the hotels and inns of Roteiros de Charme as a mirror of my blog. They are a collection of signature businesses, free from the standardization of large chains. In each one, I have the opportunity to discover something unique and authentic about the place where it is located. It could be a pastry that doesn’t appear on any other breakfast menu, a fruit that the big hotels never thought to include in a caipirinha, or a local secret that the tour guides aren’t interested in sharing. In almost every one, you’ll find long-time staff who have learned to understand a guest’s tastes from the very first question — and who remember your name when you return, years later. I probably shouldn’t speak so highly of Roteiros, because, come to think of it, they are my competitors. Present in the most unmissable destinations, they make any travel guide almost unnecessary. Just look at the map to see where a Roteiros hotel or inn is located, and in a handful of vacations and long weekends, you’ll have experienced the very best of Brazil. And there’s more. A hotel’s mention in a guide is often random, depending on the reporter’s taste, the audience profile, or even the space available. Being part of Roteiros de Charme, however, only happens after a thorough selection process. Those who are accepted become part of a true Brazilian academy of hospitality. Seven years later, in 1999, Roteiros de Charme took another pioneering step by launching its own Code of Ethics and Environmental Conduct, created in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Today, Roteiros de Charme represents a trusted brand for discerning travelers, with carefully selected establishments across Brazil. Each year, numerous hotels apply to join the association, but acceptance requires a rigorous evaluation that considers not only the quality of services but also the prime location, respect for the environment, cultural value of the surroundings, and the ability to offer unique experiences. DISCOVER ROTEIROS DE CHARME Founded in 1992, Roteiros de Charme was the first association to bring together independent hotels and inns in Brazil with an innovative purpose: to offer excellence in hospitality without compromising a commitment to the environment, local culture, and society. Its founders traveled 58,000 kilometers across the country in search of tourism enterprises capable of combining charm, quality, and environmental awareness. From this journey emerged a non-profit organization that, from the very beginning, has championed ethical, sustainable, and socially engaged hospitality — long before the concept of sustainability became part of the tourism vocabulary.
12 | ROTEIROS DE CHARME Since its founding in 1992, the Roteiros de Charme Hotels Association has been building its portfolio with hotels committed to operating in ways that respect the environment and implement measures to reduce their ecological impact. These hotels are also socially engaged, either through their own projects or by supporting initiatives that promote tourism or benefit the local community, and they adopt good governance practices. Whenever possible, we seek independent hotels — with exceptions only for those that add value — where guests are often welcomed by the owner and can enjoy personalized, unique experiences. In general, our member hotels are located outside major urban centers, surrounded by and enhanced with greenery that is integrated into the property. These criteria are part of our Code of Ethics and Environmental Conduct, developed in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme through its tourism initiative, adopted in 1999. In 2024, the Roteiros de Charme Hotels Commitment to sustainability Camurim Grande pool, in Maragogi, on the northern coast of Alagoas Association embraced a new strategic phase by implementing its Sustainability Program to update and align its Code of Ethics and Environmental Conduct and independent environmental monitoring with the latest corporate management model (ESG). This initiative aims to increase operational efficiency and compliance, as well as enhance the perceived value of the “Roteiros de Charme” brand. Still in partnership with the United Nations, under the Global Tourism Plastics Initiative (GTPI), the Association has committed to and continues implementing best practices and measures to reduce plastic use in its member hotels. Conscious tourism is a powerful tool to help Brazil stand out as a destination with high-quality hotels committed to sustainability. The country boasts unparalleled biodiversity and important ecosystems such as the Amazon, the Pantanal, and the Atlantic Forest. Our commitment is to contribute to a future where tourism does more than connect people to places — it regenerates, transforms, and protects.
ROTEIROS DE CHARME | 13 In September 2024, Roteiros de Charme participated as a guest and speaker at the “One Planet Network Forum” held in Rio de Janeiro, which brought together global leaders to discuss innovative strategies and solutions in tourism. The discussions addressed critical topics such as renewable energy and the circular economy, as well as the adaptations and transformations needed in the tourism sector to achieve greater sustainability and resilience. Our participation in the “One Planet Network Forum” was even more meaningful, as Roteiros de Charme became a signatory of the Glasgow Declaration, an initiative of the United Nations, UN Tourism, based in Madrid, which seeks to accelerate tourism’s role in combating the climate crisis. The Glasgow Declaration emphasizes the urgency of making firm commitments to support global targets: cutting emissions by half over the next decade and achieving net zero as soon as possible, always before 2050. As a signatory, Roteiros de Charme has also committed to developing a climate action plan aligned with the five key areas Deck with a view of Serra do Faxinal at Morada dos Canyons, in Praia Grande, Santa Catarina @pilotluana Roteiros de Charme in the Fight Against the Climate Crisis identified in the Glasgow Declaration: measurement, decarbonization, regeneration, collaboration, and financing, to accelerate and coordinate climate action in tourism. Equally highlighted in its action plan is the commitment to work with a spirit of collaboration, sharing best practices and solutions among its members, disseminating information to encourage the creation of multipliers to achieve set goals, and promoting broad adherence to the principles of the Glasgow Declaration. Roteiros de Charme’s involvement in this global forum reflects its ongoing dedication of over three decades to integrating sustainable practices across all its operations, promoting transformative tourism that respects the environment and local communities. With a trajectory marked by excellence in service and a strong commitment to sustainability, Roteiros de Charme aims to inspire hotels, service providers, and travelers to adopt more responsible and sustainable practices in their itineraries and destinations.
14 | ROTEIROS DE CHARME In tune with the transformations of contemporary tourism and the evolving desires of travelers, Roteiros de Charme has launched a new visual identity. A new logo, featuring four stylized diamonds forming a four-leaf clover, was created with colors that evoke nature, sophistication, and warmth. More than just an aesthetic change, this update represents a new phase for the Association. Over more than three decades, Roteiros de Charme has established itself as a reference in hospitality with personality, sustainability, and high standards. The visual identity overhaul comes alongside other updates — such as the new classification of member hotels — designed to clarify the concept of each property and help travelers find experiences that truly match their style and expectations. The Association’s hotels and inns are now organized into six main categories: Beach, Farm/Countryside, Hill/Mountain, Historic Site, Eco Retreat, and Spa. Each classification reflects not only the hotel’s geographical location but also the type of atmosphere it offers to guests.

The idea is to allow travelers to know in advance whether a destination is ideal, for example, for a romantic getaway, a weekend or family vacation combining gastronomy and wellness, a reconnection retreat, or an immersion in trails and nature. According to the Roteiros de Charme Association, this new classification organizes information in a more intuitive and user-friendly way, increasing transparency and making it easier to choose the perfect stay.
