With seven and six different modes respectively, the front lamp and tail light
from Cygolite are designed to help you see and be seen whether riding
during the day or night. Flexible rubber mounts make fitting the lights to
your bike easy (the tail light comfortably fits an aero seatpost) and
keep them in place even when riding over poor surfaces. The
Dash Pro boasts 450 lumens when emitting a steady beam
(500 flashing) and the ‘high’ night mode provides good
coverage on unlit country lanes (but if travelling
upwards of 15mph you might want a more
powerful lamp). The sleek and narrow HotRod
50 is a solid rear light that will help you get
noticed by approaching vehicles. Each
light is USB-rechargeable within 4hrs
and the claimed burn times of
1:15hr and 1:30hr for ‘high’
steady settings were found

Asics’ flagship cushioning shoe has reached
its 23rd iteration. Clearly it’s been popular
but, in the past, we’ve grumbled that
Kayanos have felt cumbersome and
over-engineered. Not here – this is one of
the better Kayanos we’ve tested. That’s
thanks in part to Asics’ FlyteFoam
cushioning – lighter than ever – and a
two-layered springy midsole. The seamless
upper cuts weight further and fits seamlessly,
though ensure your toenails are regularly cut
back to prevent tearing. That sock-like upper is
also darn comfortable, as is the tongue that’s roomy
enough to prevent the lace eyelets from digging into your feet:
it seems an obvious one but is something many manufacturers
forget. Transition between landing and toe-off is proficient, though
its DNA means it excels over longer, moderate efforts rather than
fartleks and intervals.
It’s also very expensive,
